2024 Wells Fargo Championship picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf expert likes Wyndham Clark at Quail Hollow

A renovated Quail Hollow Club will greet PGA Tour players this week when play begins in the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship beginning on Thursday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. After last year's tournament, the club closed for a few months to undergo a renovation. The project included redoing all the tees and greens, installing a new drainage system, and overhauling the bunkers. Quail Hollow is set to host next year's PGA Championship.

This week, three-time champion Rory McIlroy is the favorite in the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship odds at +650. Xander Schauffele is the +900 second choice in the Wells Fargo Championship 2024 field. Defending champion Wyndham Clark (+1600), Patrick Cantlay (+1800) and Max Homa (+2200) round out the top five choices. "He has great history at Quail Hollow, but he's shown no ability to close on the PGA Tour over his career and this is not the field for him to finally pull it off."

However, Nejad is high on the chances of Wyndham Clark, who is +1600 in the Wells Fargo Championship odds. Ranked No. 3 in the world, Clark has one win, two seconds and four top-10 finishes in 10 events this season. He hasn't played since finishing third in the RBC Heritage three weeks ago.

Nejad likes that Clark has excelled in all of the strokes gained metrics this year. He ranks second in strokes gained: total (1.780) behind only Scottie Scheffler. "The approach play hasn't been perfect, but he comes back to a place where he has won and he is notably unafraid of the big moments on Sundays," Nejad said.
