Harry Potter’s birthday is July 31, but the festivities might be different this year amid the coronavirus pandemic. We’ve got five ideas of how to observe Harry Potter’s birthday at home, so grab your wizard gear and get ready to celebrate the boy who lived.

Turn on your favorite “Harry Potter” film, have a movie marathon or read from the books in the J.K. Rowling series. You can even listen to celebrities including Daniel Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Whoopi Goldberg read chapters from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on a new Wizarding World series.

At the Wizarding World website, a replacement for J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website, you can visit the sorting hat, discover your wand and even reveal your patronus with a series of quizzes. Just create an account or import your Pottermore information to build your own wizard profile.

Download the “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” or “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” apps for a wizard adventure. There are also plenty of games, quizzes and other activities online, for example, on the Wizarding World and Bloomsbury websites. You could even put together your own game of quidditch.

At a virtual Harry Potter party I threw with my family this week, we did a house sorting quiz and competed in a Kahoot trivia game I made, and played Jackbox Games’ “Drawful 2” and “Quiplash 2” with customized Harry Potter prompts.

Whip up a wizard treat, whether it’s re-creating Harry Potter’s pink birthday cake from Hagrid or enjoying some jelly beans dubbed Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. A personal favorite is butterbeer made with cream soda, butterscotch syrup, heavy cream and whipped cream on top. Insider has a compilation of 11 Harry Potter-inspired recipes from pumpkin juice to chocolate frogs.

Try your hand at a Harry Potter craft

Get your creative juices flowing by putting together a Harry Potter craft. Wizarding World has instructions on how to make several wizard crafts from Cornish pixie jars to Weasley scarves. My family and I made the Hogwarts house bookmarks at our virtual Harry Potter party.
