Abigail Breslin Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Father Michael Following His Death From COVID-19

Abigail Breslin attends the premiere of 'Zombieland Double Tap' at The Regency Village Theatre on Oct. 10, 2019 in Westwood, California.

The 'Zombieland: Double Tap' actress posted on social media Friday night, including a series of photos along with a lengthy message.

Abigail Breslin shared a heartfelt tribute on Friday night to her father Michael, who died of complications due to COVID-19.

The Zombieland: Double Tap actress, 24, posted the devastating news in a lengthy message on her Instagram account, along with a series of pictures. "Oh wow," she began."Hard to write this. Harder than I thought. I’m in shock and devastation. At 6:32 PM EST , my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye. It was COVID-19 that cut my sweet daddy’s life too short."

"Mostly I want to remember my dad for who he was," wrote Breslin, sharing that Michael was "a hilarious, boisterous, tenacious, rebellious, intelligent, sweet, incredible human being" who loved life, his family, and the simple things, such as a cup of black coffee, barbecuing, doowop songs like "I Wonder Why" by Dion & The Belmonts, and funny stories about people's pets.

Among the included photographs was one of a young Breslin and her father at an awards ceremony — presumably around the time of Little Miss Sunshine — with Nicole Kidman prominently featured.

"And we loved him," wrote Breslin. "And we always will. I miss you daddy. I can’t wait to see you again. I won’t ever, ever, ever forget you."

On Feb. 10, Breslin revealed on Twitter that her father had tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be placed on a ventilator. She urged her followers to continue wearing masks and following COVID-19 protocols.

Breslin later wrote in a tweet, "All I can say is this: Covid is never more real until you’ve experienced it firsthand or through a loved one. It’s unpredictable and relentless. My dad has been incredible careful and hasn’t left home since it began except for doctors appointments. Plz be safe. PLEASE."
