The Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team won their first National Championship since 1992 on Sunday, defeating the Arizona Wildcats 54-53 in a thrilling game. One of the stars of the Stanford team is Anna Wilson, who just so happens to have a brother who is the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson.

Wilson only had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in the National Championship game and only averages 4.6 points per game. But unlike her brother, her impact is made on the defensive side of the ball. Anna was voted the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Pac-12 for the 2020-2021 season and was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team.

On the game’s deciding play, Wilson had initial 1-on-1 defense on Arizona star Aari McDonald, who struggled with her shot all game and ended up heaving a long fadeaway two-pointer with multiple defenders in her face as time was winding down. The shot hit the back iron and Stanford celebrated a dramatic title triumph.

Of course, Russell was in attendance in San Antonio and got to witness his sister add some more championship hardware to the family.

Stanford’s last two wins of the tournament came down to the final shot, both decided by a single point.

So congrats to Anna Wilson and the rest of the Stanford Cardinal, and let's hope that 2021 is a good year for the Wilsons on the field, just as it has been so far on the court.
