Cyberpunk 2077 has three backstories for your player character
It only seems like you have to wait until 2077 for Cyberpunk 2077, thanks to a couple of delays, but CD Projekt pinkie-promises it’s coming in November, and if it’s not, then this video highlighting the three “lifepaths” available to player characters is a cruel tease.
There’s the Street Kid, Nomad, and Corpo. They’re all suitable back stories for your grimdark star of the show, V. Street Kid is your classic up-from-nothing hoodlum in Night City; born here, live here, die here, get beaten by the cops here. Street Kid’s mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore.
Nomad is your high-plains-drifter type, an outcast from the desert going to the big bad city for some kind of familial reason. This looks like the most Mad-Maxy template, for those who are into that milieu for their role-playing.
Finally, there’s Corpo, a typical one-percent technocrat toolshed, who’s either going to get religion or steal everything, including control of whatever Arasaka is. (it’s a worldwide megacorporation and the largest distributor of Japanese merchandise in the west. Read for yourself.) Corpo seems like the least heroic of the three antiheroes.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches Nov. 19 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, with versions to follow later on Google Stadia (by the end of the year), and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (2021).
