Fate: The Winx Saga tells the story of Bloom (Abigail Cowen), a California girl who finds her world turned upside down when she discovers she is a fairy. Specifically, a fire fairy. Why Bloom was raised as a human with no knowledge of the mystical “Otherworld” is one of the key mysteries propelling the first season of Fate: The Winx Saga. As it turns out, Bloom’s past is even darker than she could have initially imagined and her own fate is inextricably linked to the nefarious Beatrix (Sadie Soverall) and her mentor, the mysterious Rosalind (Lesley Sharp).

Over the course of Fate: The Winx Saga‘s six episodes, Bloom not only has to reckon with the revelation that she is a changeling — that is a fairy who was kidnapped and exchanged with a real human baby – but that Alfea College’s headmistress, Farah Dowling (Eve Best) seems to be lying to her about…everything. At one point, the sneaky Beatrix explains to Bloom that they are both orphans of a city called Aster Dale. Its innocent inhabitants were evidently wiped out in a blitz ordered by Rosalind and carried out by her then-lieutenants, Farah and Silva (Robert James-Collier). Bloom’s best-chance at revenge for the death of her parents? Freeing Rosalind, the woman who spirited her away from Aster Dale and left her with a nice California couple, from her prison in Farah’s office.

However, not everything is as it appears, and the ending of Fate: The Winx Saga comes with a few awful (and awfully confusing) twists.

So what happens in the ending of Fate: The Winx Saga? Who lives, who dies, and who literally comes back from the dead? Here’s the Fate: The Winx Saga ending explained…

FATE: THE WINX SAGA ENDING EXPLAINED: WHAT WAS ROSALIND’S BIG PLAN FOR BLOOM?

Okay, so Rosalind was the headmistress at Alfea and the fairy strategist who led the previous generation — Farah, Silva, Sky’s dad, Terra’s dad — in combat against the Burned Ones. However she crossed a line when she demanded her soldiers destroy the town of Aster Dale. Farah and Silva were disgusted by the thought that they murdered innocent villagers in order to kill Burned Ones hiding in the town. Eventually, they revolted against Rosalind, unaware that she had spirited two infants from Aster Dale before the bombing. These babies were Bloom and Beatrix.

Rosalind placed Bloom in the care of a California couple about to lose their real baby, thus giving the powerful fire fairy a secret place to grow up in. Rosalind was counting on Bloom’s powers manifesting at Alfea and even planned for her cronies to unleash Burned Ones just to test Bloom’s burgeoning powers. The Burned Ones are drawn to the ancient magic in Bloom — she has wings! — and Bloom is able to undo the ancient curse that turned the Burned Ones into, uh, Burned Ones in the first place.

However, here’s where things get super complicated. Rosalind wants to use Bloom as a weapon for a much darker evil on the horizon. One that not even Farah knows about. Not only that, but the whole situation in Aster Dale was even more complicated than anyone thought. As it happened, the people in the town weren’t innocents, but Blood Witches. Humans who wanted to steal the magic of the fairies. They had already kidnapped Bloom, knowing she was special.

Obviously this revelation rocks Farah and Silva, who thought they had been asked to commit a war crime, and makes things complicated for Silva, who was also super duper tricked by Team Rosalind…

WHAT HAPPENED TO ANDREAS IN FATE: THE WINX SAGA?

One of the darker tragedies affecting the latest generation at Alfea College has to do with Specialist instructor Silva and the handsome Sky (Danny Griffin). Because his own father Andreas (Ken Duken) died in battle, Sky has grown up considering Silva to be the closest thing he has to a dad. Silva and Andreas were best friends. However, we learn that friendship took a dark turn in the Fate: The Winx Saga finale.

As it happens, Silva killed Andreas in a bitter fight over the fate of Aster Dale. Silva was horrified by Rosalind’s call to destroy the whole city and tried to stop it. Stopping him was Andreas, who would follow Rosalind no matter what. The two friends tussled and Silva was forced to kill Andreas in self-defense. At least…that’s what Silva thought.

In the Fate: The Winx Saga finale, it is revealed that Andreas did not die! He recovered from his injuries and lived in hiding, raising Beatrix as his own. Eventually, he returns to Alfea and alleges that Silva attempted to murder him. This means that the Solarian army places Silva under arrest. But Andreas’s return to Alfea is even darker as it represents a coup!

WHO LIVES AND DIES IN THE FATE: THE WINX SAGA FINALE?

While Bloom and Winx Suite gals are vacationing in sunny California, some really dark stuff goes down at Alfea. Rosalind straight up murders Farah and hides her corpse amongst those of the Burned Ones Bloom defeated. With the support of the Solarian Queen, Luna (Kate Fleetwood), and the return of Andreas, Rosalind takes over the school. Bloom and her friends return to campus to discover everything has changed. The implication is clear: under Rosalind, Alfea will no longer be a safe space for fairies and specialists to learn and grown. Instead, it will be a brutal military school.

It’s still unclear if Rosalind is straight up evil or doing a lot of evil stuff for a greater good. However, the fact that she murdered Farah kind of puts her in the bad guy category. Here’s hoping that if there is a Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 that Bloom and her besties manage to hold on to their souls.
