Gypsy Rose Blanchard is separating from her husband just three months after regaining her freedom, she confirmed on social media this week.

“People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou,” Blanchard wrote, referencing a reconnection she’s had with her father, Rod Blanchard and stepmom, Kristy. “I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find … who I am.”

The marriage of Blanchard, 32, to Ryan Scott Anderson, a teacher from Louisiana, in a 2022 prison house wedding appeared to be a turning point in the young woman’s tumultuous life, which before her time in prison was spent under the thumb of her controlling mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. The woman was murdered by her daughter’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, in 2015; and gradually, after her body was found stabbed to death in their Missouri home, the truth about the dark relationship between mother and daughter became clear.

Dee Dee Blanchard, for years, had been lying about multiple diseases and disorders she falsely claimed her daughter Gypsy Rose suffered with, including leukemia, asthma and muscular dystrophy; unnecessary medical procedures and medications gave Dee Dee deep control over the girl for years while they accepted generous charity and donations from numerous organizations.

As the legal fallout unfolded and the truth came out to a shocked public, Gypsy Rose accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced to 10 years in prison after it was argued she was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, wherein a guardian exaggerates and often will induce illness to gain sympathy, and persuaded Godejohn to kill her mother. In 2019, Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and is currently serving a life sentence in prison.

While her story became a successful HBO documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest, and Hulu series, The Act, Blanchard began to elicit sympathy from the public as she was perceived more as a victim. Meanwhile, her life in prison shifted, with her telling ABC’s 20/20 that she felt more free there than under life with her late mother.

She also met Anderson and soon, via letters and phone calls, a relationship blossomed and led to a deepening relationship as he began to visit her in prison. The couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony held in the prison where Blanchard was serving her sentence.

“It was very, very small, we didn’t have any guests,” she told People magazine. “It was just something for him.”

Blanchard was released on parole from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center in December 2023 after serving 85 percent of her sentence.

Her life again got the TV treatment with several specials around the time of her release, including the Lifetime docuseries The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. She had spoken about getting cold feet before marring Anderson in the Prison Confessions doc, saying she reached out to her ex-fiancé 12 days before the nuptials, something she eventually told Anderson about. “I omitted the truth, but I want to go into this marriage with no regrets,” she said. “I want go into this marriage knowing that I wiped the slate clean of any omissions, lies, anything.”

When speaking to THR around the doc’s release, she said she was looking forward to settling into married life. “I’ve been spending my time reconnecting with my dad [Rod Blanchard] and my stepmom, Kristy, and really spending time with my husband,” she said in January of this year. “We’re back home in Louisiana now, and we’re settling into married life. I definitely had to kind of go peeking through his closet and putting my clothes on the shelf and integrating myself into his life now. I’m making this my home.”
