Here's where to score coffee deals and freebies on National Coffee Day

If you love coffee or in dire need of a little perk, Tuesday is the day.

National Coffee Day is here and it's time to celebrate with a free pick-me-up. It's celebrated annually Sept. 29 in the U.S., while Oct. 1 is deemed International Coffee Day.

You need to guess again if you think Detroit is a big-coffee drinking city. We don't even make the top 50, according WalletHub's 2020 ranking of the 100 Best Coffee Cities and come in at No. 96.

It's no surprise that Seattle, the home of Starbucks, was No. 1. Ranking at the very bottom, No. 100 was Toledo, Ohio. We ranked last, No. 100 on the average amount spent on coffee and No. 97 of cities with the lowest percent of coffee makers.

A survey by the National Coffee Association found 62% of Americans drink coffee every day. Three cups a day is how much the average coffee drinker consumes. Nearly half of daily coffee drinkers who buy coffee at a quick-service restaurant, café, donut shop or convenience store, do so through a drive-through.

There's no small beans about the coffee industry. The Specialty Coffee Association of America puts its value at $48 billion annually in the U.S.

Here's a sampling of where you can get free or discounted coffee locally on National Coffee Day.

Biggby Coffee: The East Lansing-based coffee chain is offering a free 20-ounce hot or iced brewed coffee with any purchase all day at participating locations. biggby.com.

Dunkin’: The nationwide chain is deeming it National Dunkin Day. You can get a free medium hot or ice coffee with any purchase.

Circle K: Free any size hot or iced coffee redeemable through its app at participating stores.

High Brew Coffee: At 2 p.m. Tuesday you can join High Brew Coffee happy hour online to download a limited number of coupons for a free coffee to redeem at a retailer.

Krispy Kreme: Free coffee and doughnut for MySweet Rewards members. To sign up go to. krispykreme.com.

Pilot Flying J centers: Free cup of any size hot or cold Pilot coffee with the Pilot Flying J app.

7-Eleven: Any size coffee is 79 cents from noon-7 p.m. for 7Rewards members with the 7-Eleven phone app. Sign up at 7-eleven.com.

Speedway: Free 16-ounce coffee from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Limit 1 per customer.

Starbucks: Starbucks Rewards members who order grande or larger using Starbucks app receive a free drink loaded to their account for use on their next visit. It's not valid on purchases of hot brewed coffee or tea or Starbucks Reserve beverages.

Tim Hortons: Through Oct. 26, you can purchase any size hot or iced coffee for 99 cents using the Tim Hortons app. timhortons.com.
