How Did Jose Aldo Get the Scar on His Face?

Over the years, Jose Aldo has emerged as one of the top featherweight fighters in the UFC. That has seen him rise to prominence as one of the faces of his weight classes. Aldo has stumbled over the last couple of years, but he has remained one of the more experienced and high-demand fighters. That also seen his backstory delved into on several occasions, which one frequently asked question concerns the scar on his face.

Jose Aldo grew up in Brazil, where he came from a tough situation that saw him endure street fights that pushed him into learning to fight.

It didn’t take long for him to garner tremendous skill in the sport as he trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He made his debut in MMA at age 17 that saw him work his way through the ranks in Brazil through World Extreme Cagefighting.

That saw him get his chance to become the first WEC Featherweight champion that later became the UFC Featherweight champion that saw him win his first 15 matches, including successfully defending the championship nine times. He suffered his first UFC loss to Conor McGregor back in December 2015 at UFC 194.

Since then, it has been tough sledding as he did recapture the vacant UFC Featherweight title by beating Frankie Edgar in his next match, but he has suffered four losses in his last six fights. That includes him dropping his previous two matches against Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes. Nonetheless, Aldo has established himself as a mainstay with the UFC as one of their most experienced fighters.

Beyond his success in the octagon over nearly the last two decades, there has been a focus on his upbringing that has shaped who he has become.

One of the most discussed things around him over the years has been the story around the large scar on his face across the his left cheek. There have been some questions around the actual story, but he continues to voice it was incident when he was a one year old after his older sister, Joseline, picked up his crib to throw at him that lead to him falling and landing face-first on a lit barbecue. It’s quite a traumatic story that has continued to a part of his life with a very visible scar that has formed ever since. Regardless of all the grounds of the anecdote, it’s part of who he is and his image.

Jose Aldo is looking to get back on track after a rough going in his previous two fights that have ended in decisions against him not in his favor.

Aldo is coming off his Bantamweight debut that was a loss to Marlon Moraes at UFC 245 last December. He will have his second fight at that weight class against a highly formidable opponent in Petr Yan at UFC 251, who has established himself as one of the company’s rising stars.

The 27-year-old has won his first six fights in the UFC topped by him KO’ing Urijah Faber in Round 3 last December at UFC 245. He has three knockouts over that short span since his UFC debut back in June 2018. Aldo has an opportunity to get back on track while making his presence felt in the bantamweight division against a rising star.
