WWE legend John Cena has reportedly donated $40,000 (£32,800) to a fundraising page for Shad Gaspard’s family.

Former WWE wrestler Gaspard died while saving his son’s life having become caught in a rip tide in Los Angeles earlier this month.

A GoFundMe page has raised over $138,000 (£113,200) for Shad’s family since his body was discovered on Venice Beach last week.

A $40,000 donation was made with the comment ‘CTC RIP’.

The ‘CTC’ remark could be referencing Cryme Tyme Cenation, a faction in WWE which included Cena, Gaspard and Jason Anthony Paul (JTG) in 2008.

And TMZ have speculated that Cena is the secret donor, claiming he was ‘extremely close’ with Gaspard and wanted to do something for his family.

He dropped a hint that he was behind the generous donation by posting a throwback picture of himself, Gaspard and JTG vandalising JBL’s limousine on Raw with the letters ‘CTC’.

Gaspard had a colourful career and was very popular, having acted as bodyguard to Mike Tyson and once stopped an armed robbery.

She said: “Shad was our whole world and we were his. There are not enough words to describe what he means to all of us.

“He was our heart, our soul, our protector, our warrior. He was a bright force of nature, who brought joy to many through his joyous and gracious nature.

“The outpouring of love from Shad’s friends, colleagues and fans has meant more to us than you can even imagine.

“We’d like to once again thank the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their efforts.”
