Justin Herbert and his new haircut are 1-0 with the Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert says he didn’t get a haircut in a superstitious effort to change the fortunes of the then-reeling Los Angeles Chargers.

However, some Chargers’ fans are probably wondering if the new haircut brought some much-needed good luck after Herbert threw for a career-high 366 yards and three touchdowns during the Chargers’ 34-28 win over the New York Jets on Sunday.

He’s 1-0 with the new “do.”

Herbert’s buzzcut went viral on social media last week.

Herbert said he spent the week concentrating on beating the Jets, not the reaction to his haircut on social media.

“I’ve done a pretty good job of kind of staying away from that,” Herbert told reporters after the game. “I’ve been focused on the Jets all week.”

The new haircut was part of the win that snapped a three-game losing streak and gave Herbert just his second win as the starting quarterback. When Herbert sported long locks, he was 1-7 as the Chargers’ starter.

Herbert had been going with longer hair since his days at Oregon, but he said it was time to get a cut, which was done by Chargers’ strength and conditioning coach John Lott. The reaction on social media ranged from innocuous jokes to nastiness, but Herbert indicated he’s been pretty much oblivious to life outside the Chargers’ practice facility and had no clue about the reaction to his buzzcut.

“I don’t know what’s been going on,” Herbert told reporters after the game. “It’s probably for the best.”

Chargers’ fans may thinking what’s best for Herbert and the Chargers is he continue to roll with the new haircut after his performance and the win.
