Mandy Moore says ex-husband Ryan Adams should have apologized privately

Mandy Moore says that her ex-husband, Ryan Adams, should have apologized in private to her and the women he admits he “mistreated” before making a very public mea culpa.

Speaking on “Today” on Monday, the “This is Us” star reacted to Adams’ recent statement where he said he is “still reeling from the ripples of devastating effects that my actions triggered.”

Adams claims he has spent the last year in therapy and kicking booze, and when Hoda Kotb asked Moore if she believed he has changed, the star replied: “Um … you know it’s challenging because I feel like in in many ways I’ve said all I want to say about him and that situation, but I find it curious that someone would make a public apology but not do it privately.

“Speaking for myself, I’ve not heard from him. I’m not looking for an apology necessarily, but l do find it curious that someone would do an interview about it without actually making amends privately.”

The singer-songwriter has been lying low since 2019 when he was accused of emotional and sexual misconduct toward women, including an underage songwriter.

Moore, 36, has said the former Whiskeytown rocker, 45, was “psychologically abusive” and controlling during their seven-year marriage from 2009 to 2016.

“In my effort to be a better man, I have fought to get sober, but this time I’m doing it with professional help. Sobriety is a priority in my life, and so is my mental health. These, as I’m learning, go hand in hand,” he wrote in a letter posted July 3 on the Daily Mail.

He admitted: “There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people throughout my life and career. All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me realize that I needed to make significant changes in my life.”
