A YouTuber who adopted a young boy from China has addressed "hurtful" comments made after announcing he has gone to a new "forever home" due to his complex medical needs.

Breaking down in tears as she revealed the news in a video post, Myka Stauffer said Huxley is no longer living with her and her husband, James, who appeared alongside her.

The couple adopted the little boy in 2017, when Stauffer announced details of their new arrival in a YouTube video, saying he had "stolen" their hearts.

Huxley has autism and a brain cyst, and while they were aware he had medical problems at the time, the couple say they have since learned he has "a lot more special needs that we weren't aware of and that we were not told".

They say he had been receiving more "intense" therapy in the past year.

"After multiple assessments, after multiple evaluations, numerous medical professionals have felt that he needed a different fit in his medical needs," Stauffer said in her video. "He needed more."

Some people have criticised the couple in online posts.

Addressing the "hurtful" comments that have been made, she said: "Do I feel like a failure as a mom? Like, 500%."

While the couple have shared their adoption journey online, Stauffer said they had not revealed "95% of the struggles" they have been through and could not go into much detail out of respect for their son's privacy.

The star said the couple have been getting updates on Huxley's progress and experts have found him a family "they felt would ultimately be the best fit".

She said he is "thriving" and "very happy" in his new home.

"And his new mommy has medical professional training," she said.

Stauffer, a mother of four from Ohio, has more than 700,000 YouTube subscribers.

In her video, she said she wanted to let people know what was happening as she had shared Huxley's story and her fans had "been there for us so much".

She said the last few months "have been the hardest thing I could ever imagine".
