The Minnesota Golden Gophers will try to turn things around when they host the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday night in a Big Ten battle. The Golden Gophers were among the sport's best stories last season, entering the College Football Playoff conversation and finishing 11-2. However, despite much of the offense returning, Minnesota is off to a 1-3 start and coming off a dispiriting 35-7 loss to Iowa last week. The Golden Gophers still have one of the best running backs in the nation and an experienced quarterback, but now they face a Boilermakers squad whose only loss was last week to a ranked Northwestern team.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers are a one-point favorite in the latest Purdue vs. Minnesota odds at William Hill Sportsbook, and the over-under for total points scored is 60. Before you lock in your Minnesota vs. Purdue picks, check out the college football predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Over the past four-plus years, the proprietary computer model has generated a stunning profit of almost $3,900 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is a sizzling 39-21 on top-rated picks through 11 weeks of the 2020 college football season, returning over $1,000 in profit already. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now, the model has set its sights on Purdue vs. Minnesota. You can visit SportsLine now to see the picks. Here are the college football odds from William Hill and trends for Minnesota vs. Purdue:
• PU: WR David Bell has at least nine receptions in his last six games, topping 100 yards in five
• MINN: RB Mohamed Ibrahim has at least 140 yards in his past five games, including the Outback Bowl in January

Purdue is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games in November, and quarterback Aiden O'Connell threw for 263 yards in last week's loss. He has completed nearly 65 percent of his passes for 916 yards and seven touchdowns. O'Connell (undisclosed), however, is considered a game-time decision for this matchup. Receivers David Bell (31 catches for 321 yards) and Milton Wright (16 for 209) have combined for six of those TDs. Sophomore tight end Payne Durham is becoming a valuable safety valve with nine catches for 97 yards.

The Boilermakers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Big Ten games, and they should be able to run it. Zander Horvath struggled last week, but he averages 4.8 yards per carry and the Gophers allow 237.5 yards per game on the ground (118th in FBS). The junior is also second on the team with 17 receptions. Linebackers Derrick Barnes, with 27 tackles and an interception, and DaMarcus Mitchell, with 24 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, are the playmakers on defense.

Minnesota is 5-0 in its last five games at home against Purdue, and running back Mohamed Ibrahim gives them a chance against any team. He leads the nation in rushing yards per game at 178.8 and already has scored 10 touchdowns. Freshman Treyson Potts is also explosive with the few chances he gets, averaging 10.2 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Tanner Morgan has experience and has thrown for 769 yards and four TDs.

The Golden Gophers are 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous outing, and they have the weapons outside to put up points. Rashod Bateman has 32 catches for 413 yards after topping 1,200 last season, and Chris Autman-Bell is averaging 20.7 yards on his nine catches. The defense lost a lot of talent, but end Boye Mafe has 3.5 sacks, and the secondary is the strength of the unit that allows just 209 passing yards per game.
