Red Sox set Opening Day lineup for 2024 season

The Boston Red Sox announced the club's Opening Day roster Thursday ahead of their first game of the season, and now we know how the Sox lineup will look for the season opener against the Seattle Mariners.Jarren Duran will lead off for the Red Sox and play left field. He will be followed in the batting order by third baseman Rafael Devers, shortstop Trevor Story, first baseman Triston Casas, right fielder Tyler O'Neill, designated hitter Masataka Yoshida, center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela, second baseman Enmanuel Valdez and catcher Connor Wong.Right-hander Brayan Bello, 24, will start on the mound for Boston in the Opening Day game in Seattle, which is scheduled to begin at 10:10 p.m. Eastern time.Earlier this month, the club agreed to a six-year contract extension with Bello. The extension, worth a reported $55 million, includes a $21 million club option for a seventh year in 2030.Bello finished the 2023 season with a 12-11 record, 4.24 earned run average, and 132 strikeouts in 157 innings pitched over 28 starts.The Dominican Republic native ramped up his offseason training program to combat fatigue he felt late last season. He also worked with Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez to refine his slider ahead of spring training.Bello will be matched up against his fellow countryman, Luis Castillo, on opening day.
