Thursday Night Football open thread: Bengals at Browns

It’s a battle between two number one overall quarterbacks on Thursday Night Football.

The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Chargers, where a missed 31-yard field goal—due to a cramp in Randy Bullock’s leg, apparently—failed to send the game to overtime. It was an otherwise uneventful debut for the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Joe Burrow. Burrow has yet to throw a touchdown pass, although he did scamper for his first career touchdown. In what will likely be a rebuilding year, the Bengals are looking for signs of talent from their young core.

The Cleveland Browns, meanwhile, are looking to reclaim the magic that captivated the NFL in Baker Mayfield’s rookie season. The top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Mayfield has been hot and cold since his rookie season, and that trend continued last week versus the Ravens. Baker failed to top 200 passing yards as the team got pummeled 38-6. The Ravens, meanwhile, are loving Lamar Jackson, their 2018 first round quarterback. If Mayfield wants to prove he can play at an elite level, doing so against the Bengals is a good place to start.
