FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Georgia’s freshmen football players were seven or eight years old the last time the Bulldogs played a game at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium here.

In that game Joe Cox lit up Arkansas for five touchdown passes in a 52-41 shootout victory in 2009.

If the Bulldogs light up the scoreboard for 52 today, offensive coordinator Todd Monken might be hailed as a king. If the Bulldogs defense gives up 41, it will be crisis time.

Georgia allowed just 84 points total against SEC teams before going up against LSU in the league title game last year.

Nobody expected to be here, but the pandemic-forced 10-game SEC slate sent the Bulldogs here.

"I was not very confident that we were going to play this year, especially after the other conferences shut down," Georgia inside linebacker Monty Rice said.

This is your place for live updates pregame and during the game.

Here we go.

6:46 p.m.: The Bulldogs made the most of the field position. Stetson Bennett fires a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Fitzpatrick. Bulldogs missing Florida State grad transfer Tre McKitty’ with a knee injury. Bulldogs lead 20-10 with 3:20 left in the third quarter.

6:40 p.m. How about that? Zamir White gets in for a blocked punt that went 9 yards and Bulldogs are in great field position at Arkansas 24 with 4:31 left in third quarter.

6:34 p.m. Stetson Bennett not only threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Georgie Pickens but then ran and dove for the pylon to get the two-point conversion and a 13-10 lead with 6 minutes to go in the third quarter.

6:25 p.m. Nolan Smith and Nakobe Dean combined on a third-down sack, but Arkansas get a 25-yard field goal by Duke transfer A.J. Reed to extend lead to 10-5.

6:19 p.m. Not the way to start the second half. James Cook catches a short pass in the open field and then coughs it up. Razorbacks get ball at own 49 after recovering the fumble.

6:00 p.m. Anybody know what the over/under was in this one? If you bet the under, you are in great shape. Georgia trails 7-5 at the half. It was as difficult to watch as that sounds. Jack Podlesny’ 38-yard field goal as time expired accounted for the latest points.

Let’s go @JackPodlesny !! Proud of you!

5:47 p.m. A lot going on including Stetson Bennett entering the game with more than 10 minutes left in the second quarter to try to jump start the offense.

Bennett was 4 of 8 for 33 yards and had 11 rushing yards for 3 yards in early action after getting in the game, but the Bulldogs still couldn’t get points.

By the way, Jermaine Johnson returned to the game.

5:03 p.m.: Georgia got on the scoreboard on of all things a safety when a double reverse didn’t go as planned. The ball came out and trickled out of the end zone. 7-2 Arkansas 30 seconds into the second quarter.

4:47 p.m.: If you are keeping tabs at home, that’s now 7 penalties for 68 yards after a Matt Landers hold on a Kearis Jackson punt return. It’s still the first quarter.

4:42 p.m. Georgia taketh and then giveth away. Ricard LeCounte had a much-needed momentum boost for the Bulldogs, setting Georgia up at the Arkansas’ 12. The Bulldogs’ D’Wan Mathis was off target on a pass to freshman Jermaine Burton and Arkansas’ Montaric Brown snatched the interception.

4:29 p.m. Outside linebacker Jermaine Johnson moved slowly after a third-down Arkansas incompletion forced a punt. Director of sports medicine Ron Courson was checking him out on the sideline. Chuck Dowdle on the radio broadcast said he went to the locker room.

4:19 p.m.: Uh-oh. Georgia’s defense giving up big plays. Razorbacks wideout Treylon Burks got by safety Richard LeCounte for a 49-yard touchdown pass from Feleipe Franks. Razorbacks 7-0 with 8:48 left in the first quarter. Burks just had his first college TD catch.

4:17 p.m. D’Wan Mathis showed off his running ability already on his first possession in college, picking up 11 yards on two carries.

3:44 p.m.: Georgia’s game captains are defensive end Malik Herring, safety Richard LeCounte and guard Trey Hill but teams are limited to sending just one player on the field for the coin toss due to COVID-19 protocols.

3:40 p.m.: Freshman linebacker MJ Sherman, who coach Kirby Smart has said was dealing with an injury, didn’t make the trip. Neither did outside linebackers Walter Grant and Robert Beal.

3:30 p.m. No indication based on pregame warmups that anyone else other than D’Wan Mathis is the starter. JT Daniels is dressed out and taking part in pregame. Stetson Bennett looked like he was the No. 2 quarterback.

3:02 p.m.: Former Georgia linebackers coach John Jancek is here with the Bulldogs. He has rejoined the program, serving in a quality control/analyst role. UGASports was first to report the addition. Jancek was hired on Mark Richt’s staff in 2005, the same time that a new assistant named Kirby Smart was brought on to coach running backs. Jancek was most recently defensive coordinator on Mike Bobo’s staff at Colorado State and also served in that role at Tennesseefrom 2013-15 under Butch Jones.

3:05 p.m.: Looks like walk-on Jack Podlesny will handle the kicking job. True freshman signee Jared Zirkel didn’t make the trrip. Zirkel was beaten out but a quad injury may have contributed to the Texas product falling behind and a more consistent showing this preseason by Podlesny. Jake Camarda would be the backup kicker.

11:55 a.m The thinking for a while now is that redshirt freshman quarterback D’Wan Mathis would get the start today and Rice’s comment on 680 AM on Thursday morning indicated the same. When talking about the quarterbacks he mentioned Mathis and Carson Beck first and then said that Southern Cal transfer JT Daniels "was on the scout team down there throwing dimes." A source also said Daniels was working on the scout team.

Coach Kirby Smart said late this morning that Daniels, coming off a torn ACL in the season opener last year with USC, was not cleared yet medically to play but is on the trip and didn’t rule out he still could be cleared prior to the 4 p.m. kickoff.

Smart said he knows who will start at quarterback.

"Yeah, absolutely, I’ve known for a week, a week and a half," he said on the SEC Network. "The kids have known and the quarterback’s known."

Smart told ESPN’s College Gameday: "We feel like we have a starter. It will be more how he performs in the game, what he does and how he plays. This is a year that you’ve got to be ready to change fast. We know that we’ve got to have the capability of playing other guys if things don’t go the right way."
