Widespread power outages hit Portland area; 70,000 homes, businesses affected

Roughly 70,000 Portland-area homes and businesses are without power early Wednesday as high winds and heavy rain begin to taper off.

Portland General Electric reports over 64,000 of its customers in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties have no power as of 5:20 a.m. Nearly 5,300 more Pacific Power customers in the area are also without power.

In southwest Washington, Clark Public Utilities reports the power is out for an additional 7,451 homes and businesses.

Additional outages have been reported throughout Oregon.
