CMPD speak after an east Charlotte shooting that killed 3 US Marshal task force officers and wounded

Three law enforcement officers serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were killed Monday after being met with “active gunfire” from a suspect inside an east Charlotte home. A total of eight law enforcement officers were shot, including four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers who were injured. At least one of those CMPD officers is listed in critical condition. The officers were serving together on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force when they were shot while confronting a suspect inside a home on Galway Drive. The officers were rushed to the hospital but died as a result of their injuries. The shooting suspect also died Monday. Two others found inside the home are being questioned by police. Officials have not released the names of those involved.
