Schumer on Supreme Court Confirmation: ‘Honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Dying Wish’

U.S. Democratic Party Leader Chuck Schumer on Saturday condemned the nomination by U.S. President Donald Trump of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Speaking to media in New York, Schumer said the conservative favorite Barrett, who was nominated to the seat which became vacant after the death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, "seems to be intent on undoing all the things that Ginsberg did". Schumer said Judge Barrett's ascension to the Supreme Court would put at risk "just about everything that America believes in and stands for when it comes to issues like health care, labor rights and LGBTQ rights and women's rights". He made specific reference to Barrett's views on U.S. health care, claiming that millions of Americans would either pay more for, or lose their healthcare altogether if she was voted in. "A vote for Amy Coney Barrett is a dagger aimed at the heart of the health care protections Americans so desperately need and want", he said. President Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday that he believed Judge Amy Coney Barrett will be confirmed to the Supreme Court before Election Day on Nov. 3.
